About Split
Split is a free Hebrew-first web app for splitting a restaurant bill. Photograph the receipt, the app reads the line items, share a link on WhatsApp — and everyone sees exactly what they owe, tip included.
Why we built it
Every shared meal ends the same way: one person holds the bill, another does mental arithmetic, and somebody pays for food they never ordered. Splitting evenly sounds fair until one person drank tap water and another ordered a steak and a bottle of wine.
We built Split so that part takes under a minute — no spreadsheets, no app to install, no account to create. It all happens in the browser, in Hebrew, right-to-left, done properly.
How it works
The organizer photographs the receipt. An AI recognition engine reads the lines — dish name and price — and produces a list that can be corrected by hand if something was misread.
Then a share link goes out over WhatsApp. Each participant opens it on their own phone and marks what they ordered. A dish marked by two or more people is split between them automatically. The summary screen shows every person their own amount, including a preset or manual tip.
What we care about
Privacy: no signup, no passwords, no user profile. Access to a bill is through an anonymous token in the link, and anyone without the link sees nothing.
Simplicity: one screen per step, no needless settings. If you can take a photo and send a WhatsApp message, you can use Split.
Real Hebrew: the interface was designed RTL-first, with English, Spanish and Arabic available alongside it.
Who builds Split
Split is built and maintained in Israel by a small independent team. We read every message that comes in, and most improvements started as user feedback after a shared meal that went badly.
The app is free for personal use and available both as an Android app and directly in the browser.
